Old Testament Prophecies about “Soon Coming” Judgments

An Old Testament prophet with his arms up pronouncing judgment, against a backdrop of ancient Hebrew Bible text.

“Soon” means soon—even in the Old Testament! This video examines Old Testament prophecies that critics often cite to argue that biblical predictions labeled as “near” or “at hand” were actually fulfilled centuries later—and it shows why that claim doesn’t hold up under careful exegesis. By walking through key passages such as Deuteronomy 32, Isaiah 13, Obadiah 1, Joel 1–3, Habakkuk 2, and Haggai 2, this video explains the biblical standard for true prophecy (per Deut. 18), the importance of covenantal context, and the frequent use of “when/then” timing statements in prophetic literature. It also addresses apocalyptic language, demonstrating how imagery like darkened sun, moon, and stars was commonly used to describe historical judgments rather than literal end-of-the-world events. Drawing connections to New Testament fulfillment texts—especially Hebrews, Acts 2, and Jesus’ Olivet Discourse—this study shows that the Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled exactly when the prophets said they would be.
